SoN Disability ToR

This Shades of Noir ToR is a huge learning resource. I found the glossary and terms reference pages extremely useful and interesting. I am interested to carry on reading it and will return to my blog to post more. For now, I wanted to look at the terms which have been reclaimed by the ‘New’ and Radical model of disability. Of course not everyone would have subscribe to this new and radical model, but how the language is used is exciting.

I have also begun reading the interview with the Triple Criples. This excerpt is so powerful in relaying the internalisation of taught behaviours and how it can take a short life-time in a white male patriarchy to even fully adjust, or when forced to a new perspective through disability to and see they are there and for what they are.

It should be made evident throughout a teaching session, especially when using references, the positionality of the terms/theories/authors and artists being referred to. This serves multiple purposes which can only benefit all those involved in the learning relationship, allowing form open dialogue and a 2 way stream of learning.
